What We’re Working on (And Celebrating!) Across Kansas

There’s a lot happening across the Kansas Appleseed community, from upcoming events in Dodge City and Wichita to celebrating the achievements of our team and partners! Here’s what we have been working on for the last few months.

UPCOMING EVENTS: Justice for All in dodge city and wichita

Join us in these Kansas communities for an educational event by a panel of experts to understand what’s at stake on the August 4, 2026, ballot amendment. Whether you’re just learning about the ballot amendment or want deeper context before voting later this year, these events will offer clear, accessible information to help you make an informed decision. RSVP below!

Featured panelists: Teresa Woody, Mike Harris, and David Rebein

Panelist announcement coming soon!

CONGRATUATIONS TO HALEY KOTTLER!

We are thrilled that our very own Haley Kottler was announced as the inaugural Appleseed Rising Star of the Year!

The Rising Star award is for anyone less than 10 years into their social justice advocacy career who has demonstrated exceptional commitment to social justice, community collaboration, and collaboration within the Appleseed Network.

We can’t wait to celebrate her at the 2026 Appleseed Pillars of Justice Celebration in Washington, D.C., on September 24.

BOARD MEMBER SPOTLIGHT: DAVID REBEIN

David Rebein is a Kansas native and a recognized trial lawyer who has spent more than 40 years advocating for individuals seeking justice through the civil court system. He has tried thousands of cases and represented Fortune 500 Companies as well as individuals in personal injury cases. David and his wife, Bernice, are both active in Dodge City, where they raised their two sons.

David has served on the Kansas Appleseed board since 2021.

THANK YOU, CATALINA PALACIOS-CISNEROS!

Last month, we said goodbye and thanked Catalina Palacios-Cisneros for working with us over the last few months! Cat brought a level of thoughtfulness and initiative that made a real difference in our work. It has been a true joy to work alongside her, and we have no doubt she will continue to make a meaningful impact in the food access space. Thank you, Catalina!
