What is the Summer Food Service Program?
This USDA program provides free meals to youth in qualifying areas during the summer.
Start a Summer Food Service Program
Help Kansas kids access nutritious meals when school is out. Schools, nonprofits, churches, individuals, and even businesses can be involved in a number of ways including sponsoring a program, volunteering, leading an enrichment activity in conjunction with the meal, or donating funds to help cover operational costs.
July is Lunch Across Kansas Month
In Kansas, the average daily Summer Food Service Program participation is much lower in July than in June, but the need for the program is just as high.
What We Do
Kansas Appleseed has partnered with the Kansas State Department of Education to sponsor Lunch Across Kansas Month, which encourages program sponsors to host events and activities to raise awareness and increase participation in July! Additionally, the enriching activities sites offer can help prevent the summer educational slide, so kids are ready to learn when they return to school!
