A Note from Erika, Kansas Appleseed's 2017 Summer Justice Fellow:

As summer nears its end, Kansas Appleseed’s 2017 Summer Justice Fellow, Erika Owunta, will soon return to the University of Kansas Law School to begin her second year. We wanted to share a special message from Erika, whose experience was made possible by the Justice Fellowship Fund, which provides students like Erika the opportunity to meaningfully help Kansans’ lives through advocacy.

Erika's message:
"As I've grown older, life has taken me far from New Orleans, but I hold close the memories of the effects of policy changes to a city and state. My experiences prior to Kansas Appleseed instilled in me the resolve to face challenges and an appreciation of the opportunities I have been given.

Kansas Appleseed’s mission is to champion laws and polices that will build a thriving, inclusive, and just Kansas. I spent much of my time this summer conducting policy research to learn how Kansas communities can make those goals a reality. This research will be included in the upcoming Justice Library on Kansas Appleseed's website.

The knowledge I gained from Kansas Appleseed exceeded my expectations and will stay with me as I further my education and career. I can't wait to continue to serve others, learn, and be an effective advocate. I want to thank everyone who made this insightful and fulfilling experience possible. I am determined to make the most of the opportunity I was given!"

Erika's work this summer could not have been done without the support of the Justice Fellowship Fund. Please consider making a donation to this fund today.
